Review: Glenglassaugh Revival
Glenglassaugh Revival
Single Malt Scotch - Highland Region, Scotland
46% ABV
No matter what, this is a whisky that will always be able to bring me right back to my first trip to Scotland, so it holds a big soft spot in my heart. When you have pretty much free rein at the distillery to go wherever and taste whatever you'd like you tend to remember it very, very fondly. I digress, back to this bottle… After being dormant for more than 20 years this was the first official new release by the distillery after production began again in 2008. A younger whisky, only aged 3-4 years, but very full of flavor!
Banana and fresh cut hay are some of the first things brought out in the nose to me. Seriously, you may as well just be in the middle of a field, peeling away a hand of Chiquita Bonita. There is also a very crisp oat and grain note aroma mixed in. The palate throws a bit of a curve ball with some very warming baking spice flavors that make think of cooler October weather, but the grains and banana still comes trough with a bit of honey, though not incredibly sweet. The spiciness lingers surprisingly long with the finish given how absent it is on the nose. This is a perfect fall-time whisky. Maybe best served up after the Thanksgiving meal with some warm Indian pudding. Sliced banana optional.
